Conscious Autophagy of Psyche

I have always been intrigued by the phrase  "Cogito, ergo sum".  A Latin philosophical proposition by René Descartes that appeared in his 'Principles of Philosophy'. The literal translation of this phrase in English language stands as " I think therefore I am. " To elaborate it further in simpler words Descartes said, "We cannot doubt our existence while we doubt." He said that the very act of thinking implies a thinking mind. This is a proof of one's own existence as a thinker. There needs to be a thinking entity which can be called 'self' for any 'thought' to be there. This implies that thoughts hold a prime place in our existence, they provide a frame to hold our views together and give a base to our outlook and attributes. In simple words they make us what we are. But do we really think what we are thinking? Our minds are constantly at work spinning yarns of weird ideas. As and when required prudent cognizance too ge...

Who is your Marie biscuit?

Some see just things, but I see memories in them memories that tickle me and have their own taste someone becomes my sweet  choco-chip cookie while someone else lives in that savory cracker Tea and Biscuit are like hand and glove. They just have to be together. For me that special biscuit is Marie round biscuit and it sits never alone on my plate. That opaque Marie transmutes itself into a mirror reflecting the smiling face of someone I love and miss so much. This stream of happy memories takes me back to my childhood. The key stored inside this Marie cookie opens the lock of that otherwise cornered memory inside my high traffic mind. Just like any other little girl, I used to live in my own chimera world. Early on I developed this habit of associating people with things. Apparently, it served the purpose of easy identification of some one when I didn't know their name. So there was one 'orange candy' Aunt, One 'story book' friend of ...

Sweetness of Emotion

Sweet memories cloud my mind when I think of some loved one If it's love, the taste got to be sweet; Can it be any other? None. While munching on some freshly made gud-murmura (puffed rice with jaggery), it occurred to me how the taste of this snack is sweet just like a loved one's peeking memory. If this memory associated with the one I love is sweet, I concur that emotion attached with love is 'sweet' too. Hence, Love can be called "S weetness of Emotion ". And we all generally have a sweet craving - More or Less. Exceptions are exempted here. That means we all crave for 'Love'. And this is not a picked or adapted yearning. It's natural and involuntary. As Humans, we can't help but crave for Love. Even a baby wants her mother's love. Love being rooted so deep inside us, can we avoid feeling this urge? I believe not. At any stage of our life between Birth and Death we long for Love to feed our soul. Considering this World as a de...

An ocean of silence

There is an ocean of silence between us and I am drowning in it - Anonymous This quote stayed in my mind for long after I had read it. It reverberated inside me like bells chiming in my sound-starved ears. Here, I am not talking about the normal sounds we involuntarily hear in between opening and closing our eyes. But, it's the voice that pats us softly and tells us, "your pleasure and pain affects me." Let's accept it, we all secretly crave for that motherly voice. In today's times when we strictly stick to "health and weather" kind of communication even with our relatives, neighbors and friends; we have depleted our emotional health exhaustively. We all live a cocooned life amidst the crowded surroundings. All of us are self contained in our own cages. So much so, that we isolate our existence from the rest of the world. Each of us become individual entities detached from the megacosm; its live components and its matter.  We have clearly dist...

Muddy Puddles

Have you ever played in muddy puddles during the pleasant rainy season? I am sure you all must have. And I am sure it must be when you were a child. Isn't it? Anyone still plays in muddy puddles on the road? This time too I am sure not most of us. Isn't it? So the question is where does that game disappears while we are growing up? The muddy puddles are still very much here like they've always been since the Earth was born. Consider that muddy puddles are the board game and we are the players. If the board game is still here, where are the players gone? You might say, "But we are still here!" Yes I am not debating the physical presence of the players. Where is that player spirit departed? We are all in this together...I am sure...so no issues :) We all traded our spirit and our muddy puddles with age. Now when I see my little kids jumping up and down in these muddy delights, celebrating their fun moments;  I realize how growing up has heavily charged upon...

My Society is me and I am It

I was reading a Children's story book to my kids last night and it said in the course of events, " My house is me and I am it. My house is where I like to be and it looks like all my dreams. " And after having a fun time reading it together I discussed the moral of the story with my little bundles of possibilities. It obviously said 'without saying in words' that we ought to follow our dreams rather than trying to fit in to other's dictates, styles and choices.   Later, when I had nicely tucked my sleepy kids in their cozy blankets, it occurred to me that the moral stands true for all of us (grown ups) too. Reconstructing the statement to suit us I got, " My society is me and I am it. My society is where I like to be and it looks like all my dreams. " Yet we get so stuck with the idioms of society that we forget who we are and what we like. The same society that is made of us starts breaking us. We cease to exist as individuals losing...

Mountains

I have a strong connection with Mountains since my Childhood. Having Grown up in a town located in a bowl shaped valley, I had been used to seeing them all across as a garland around the neck. So obvious was their presence to me, that I just generalized this view to be associated with each and every town/city. How could the Sun rise or set otherwise? The Mountains were the GPS for the Sun giving it directions so it didn't get lost in the way. My child imagination added one more chore to them - They stopped the monsters and wild animals from entering the town. The Nature given security system for the dwellers. It was an enlightenment equivalent to 'Kewalya Gyan' (Supreme Knowledge) when I encountered places with no Mountains or Hills around. It seemed like a Painting Sans  Borders to me. Without any Bodhi Tree I realized, it was not the Sun but me who was lost in the endless sky of my pre conceived notions. If we do not have anyone to look up to or fall back on, we a...
